The Blackfish USV is based on a jet-ski hull and was developed by QinetiQ North America in collaboration with the Office of Naval Research for force protection missions in ports and harbors. The vessel has a 40 knot top speed and an endurance of over one hour with an above water 360 degree high resolution pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) camera. The Blackfish is driven by the common control unit (CCU), which also controls QinetiQ's Talon line of robots. Using modular payloads, the USV can also be equipped with a swimmer defense system that includes a high resolution Sound Metrics Didson 2-D imaging sonar, underwater camera, underwater light, and lowspeed-maneuvering thrusters.
