USS Ponce Unmanned Naval Systems

USS Ponce (ASB(I) 15) has operated a number of unmanned systems including ScanEagle and various minehunting systems. Ponce is also the first U.S. Navy ship to be authorized to use a laser to defend against surface targets and airborne drones.





10 December 2014 - The Afloat Forward Staging Base (Interim) USS Ponce (ASB(I) 15) conducts an operational demonstration of the Office of Naval Research (ONR)-sponsored Laser Weapon System (LaWS) while deployed to the Arabian Gulf.  In the video, a ScanEagle UAS is destroyed and an HSMST is disabled.

IMCMEX 13 - New Drones, New Tactics

16 May 2013 - Unmanned naval systems played a significant role during last year's International Mine Countermeasures Exercise (IMCMEX) and this year's exercise features even more vehicles and demonstrations of new tactical concepts.
